Twenty-five years ago this morning, our world changed indelibly. This was true for everyone but was particularly acute for those closest to the chaos. Among the many volunteers in the wake of that tragedy were Ben Pearl, DPM, who worked in and around St. Paul’s Chapel, near what would become known as Ground Zero, offering medical care and emotional support to first responders and others during the most trying moments of the emergency and rescue efforts. In the video below he recalls the experience with fellow volunteer and DPM Dr. Anthony Iorio.

Effective mid-October 2026, CMS has mandated that the DME MAC add a more stringent prior authorization process for several HCPCS codes for new providers. This process is in addition to the existing prior authorization process and adds several codes that are not currently subject to prior authorization for existing providers. CMS has mandated these changes in order to stem the abuse of these codes by hit-and-run providers who bill for a significant number of units of these devices and then “run off with the money”. Texas Foundation Mexico Mission Treats 750 Patients
The Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation was proud and humbled to treat 750 underserved and indigent patients at the Mexico mission in August.
Twelve podiatric residents were sponsored to attend and performed 28 surgeries. About 500 orthotics were provided by the Forward Motion team, and additional shoes were provided for seniors and children. The group also conducted screenings and provided shoes for two local orphanages.

Addressing Patient No-Shows
A recent MGMA Stat poll found that 32 percent of medical groups reported higher patient no-show rates year to date compared with 2025, while 58 percent reported about the same and 10 percent reported lower rates. The results shifted modestly in the wrong direction from a year ago.
