How to Cut Patient No-Shows
1. Layer your reminders instead of sending just one
A single reminder the day before is better than nothing, but it leaves a lot on the table. In a randomized trial, two reminders reduced missed primary care appointments more than one did, and the effect was strongest among patients at the highest risk of not showing.
Move to a simple cadence: a reminder about three days out that gives patients time to reschedule, one the day before, and a short nudge the morning of the visit. Each message does a different job. The first creates awareness, the second drives a confirmation, and the third handles the day-of logistics. You are not sending more noise, you are closing the gaps where patients slip through.
