Dealing With Patient Pain
During your interaction with patients in general, they may ask for your opinion as a professional or seek a diagnosis. It is essential to refrain from sharing what you “think” their condition might be, substantiating the origin of their pain, or suggesting a diagnosis, regardless of your personal beliefs or impressions.

2. Sign the BAA before the first recording
An ambient documentation vendor creates, receives and maintains protected health information on the practice's behalf, which makes it a business associate. That means a signed business associate agreement has to be in place before the tool listens to a single patient, and HHS's sample business associate agreement provisions lay out the terms that the agreement needs to cover.
The most common failure point is not the contract itself; it is the pilot. Free trials, single-physician tests and vendor demos with real patients routinely start before anyone in the practice has looked at paper. Read past the signature page, too. Confirm how subcontractors and cloud hosting are handled, what the breach notification timeline is and what happens to the data if the practice walks away at renewal.

MFAC Call for Abstracts
The Midwest Foot & Ankle Conference (MFAC) is pleased to announce the return of Scientific Abstract and Digital Poster presentations for the 2027 conference. We invite fellows, residents, students, and faculty to submit completed clinical or basic science research for consideration. Encore submissions (previously presented at other meetings or conferences) are welcome and will be reviewed. The top ten abstracts will be selected for oral presentation during the General Session on Saturday, March 6, 2027. The top three abstracts will receive cash prizes.
Wisconsin Health Center Welcomes First DPM
Vernon Health in Viroqua, Wisconsin is expanding access to specialty care with the addition of Anila Rafiq, DPM, the organization’s first podiatrist. Dr. Rafiq brings comprehensive foot and ankle care to the facility, allowing patients throughout the region to receive more of the care they need locally.
