Supplementing recent state-based advocacy efforts, the APMA and other medical specialty societies have formed the Same Day Care Coalition to oppose the proposed 50 percent cut to Modifier 25-related Medicare services. The APMA also is meeting with congressional podiatry champions and reaching out to Trump administration officials.

Over a dozen states now have laws enhancing their oversight of private equity deals in health care. A new report says that’s putting a crimp in medical practice dealmaking, with a pace of about half the number of deals this year as it did in 2025. Investments in businesses that run clinics’ billing and operations have plummeted from a high of 851 deals in 2021 to just 105 in the first half of 2026.

Most successful attacks exploit known vulnerabilities that a patch had already fixed. The gap is time: the weeks or months between a fix being released and a practice actually installing it. Move patching onto a defined schedule instead of leaving it to chance. The proposed rule signals where regulators are headed, with tight windows for critical and high-severity fixes.

Turn on automatic updates where you safely can, and keep an inventory so you know every device and application that needs attention, including the ones nobody thinks about like network printers and routers. Pay down old technology, too: an operating system past its support date stops receiving patches entirely, which turns it into a permanent open window. If a system can no longer be patched, it needs to be replaced or isolated.
