Re: Diabetic Debridement

I read your query and response diabetic debridement coding and felt compelled to send in a response. The tone of the question and answer gave the appearance (my interpretation) of being a work-around of a CCI edit.

Why would someone debride nine, not ten nails? It almost sounded like the person with the query was purposefully not touching the toenail with the corn so they could get paid for trimming the corn. I think the better question is why don’t we get paid for both? A distal tip clavi or a dorsal clavi on the pip has absolutely nothing to do with a mycotic toenail. So why do we accept that payment should not be made?

Why is there not a letter writing campaign to the powers at be to change this? If work is being done that is legitimate, why should it not be paid? What other profession deals with giving away work for free? If you have two flat tires do you tell the guy the second tire should be free because they were both front tires?

CMS Overpayment Abuse: Where’s the Accountability?

A recent Becker’s article claims that the OIG found that UHC and Humana combined collected more than $177M in overpayments from CMS.

What is most astonishing to me is that CMS has yet to decide whether to “pursue” overpayment. So while physicians and all health care providers continue to be targeted by CMS agencies and nickled-and-dimed to death, these huge conglomerates and their sacred employees get away scot free?

Closure or Sale of a Podiatric Practice

You are selling your practice. You may or may not be retiring or relocating. The time to think about the things you need to do is months prior to the sale. You will want to work with an experienced healthcare attorney. A real estate attorney or a corporate attorney will not do, as there are unique considerations in a clinical practice that do not apply to other types of sales. This article is not intended to cover every aspect of closing or selling a podiatric practice.

Humans Still Want Humans, not AI, Taking That Call.

Patients aren't shy about how they feel when a call touches their health. A new national survey from Answering Service Care, covering more than 2,000 U.S. adults, finds that health care calls are among the most emotionally charged interactions Americans have with any business— and that AI answering those calls tends to make things worse, not better.
